Bob Gierhart

Senior Pastor

PastorBob%26Gail_2_edited.jpg

Bob Gierhart began serving as Pastor of Nu’uanu Baptist Church in July 2014.  Alongside his wife, Gail, Bob previously served for 38 years as a missionary in Japan and Australia through the International Mission Board, SBC.

Bob’s passion is to see people meet Jesus and experience His love and grace. His heart’s desire is to see God’s people in the Word each day, and praying for and encouraging one another in the family of God. He believes that without faithful and consistent study of God’s Word and the support and prayers of God’s people, we fail to experience the vibrant Christian life that Jesus came to give.

Bob enjoys using humor in his teaching and preaching. It is important that we take our walk with the Lord seriously but not take ourselves too seriously.

Originally from Denver, Colorado (Gail is from Honolulu), he is most comfortable in the year-round warmth of the Islands. He and Gail have three children and four grandchildren.

Bob enjoys spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, walking, reading, and watching old black and white TV shows.

Chris Morales

Pastor

Chris grew up running around the halls and hiding in nooks from Sunday school teachers at Nuuanu Baptist Church. He left the church at seventeen not ever expecting to darken the door of Nuuanu Baptist again. He now knows that God's ways are truly higher. The Lord drew Chris to Himself at age twelve when he heard the Gospel preached and by God's grace he became dreadfully aware of his sin and need for a Savior. At age nineteen he sensed a call to ministry and by his mid twenties he was serving full time in the local church.

He LOVES the Word, LOVES the church, and is AMAZED by God's grace in gifting him with his lovely wife Samantha, lively son Blue and precious daughter Autumn.

If asked about what his hobbies are, he would say an open bible with coffee, acoustic worship, a good book at the beach, playing with his pups, surfing, spearfishing, and making his wife and children laugh!

He is passionate about reaching the community with the Gospel through the local church and everyday gospel-centered living. He is grateful to be serving on the pastoral staff at Nuuanu Baptist Church since 2016.

Current oversight and responsibilities:

Oversees and teaches at Midweek Services. Facilitates Sunday church prayer meetings. Meets and counsels with church members and families. Helps with the vision and oversight of membership and the building up of various ministries in the church. Pastoral care such as baptisms, weddings, and funerals.

Johnny Hom

Pastor Johnny has been walking with the Lord since he came to put his faith in Jesus in 2000 when he was a senior in high school. Though he grew up going to Nu’uanu Baptist, he never understood his need for Christ until God showed him the depth of his sin and need for salvation. It has been amazing for him to see God’s wondrous grace as he has led him through many seasons of trials and growth.

Johnny joined the NBC Pastoral team in 2019, after serving as Assistant Pastor at Central Baptist Church for five years.  His ministry focus is helping to oversee and develop all aspects of Nu’uanu Baptist Church life in order that we, together, are growing and “making disciples” as Jesus Christ has commissioned us (Matthew 28:19).

He has been married to his wife Melanie, his best friend and partner in ministry, since 2008, and they have three rambunctious kids: Silas, Keziah, and Kerena.

He holds a M.A. in Christian Education from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, where he is currently pursuing a Doctor of Ministry in Applied Theology.
